The illusion of job security

"Job security" doesn’t exist anymore... and it’s time we stop pretending it does.

Hi friend,

A few people I know got laid off recently.

Smart, steady, loyal people. The kind who never miss a deadline and always pick up the extra work. It made me sit back and think about jobs, careers, and the illusion that is job security.

It doesn’t exist.

We still use “safe” to describe jobs, like a company can actually keep you protected from change.

It can’t.

A new boss, a merger, a slow quarter, and suddenly whole teams vanish. No warning. No chance to prepare.

That doesn’t mean stop caring. But it does mean stop pretending loyalty is the same thing as security.

Real safety now comes from knowing you can land somewhere else if you have to.

Keep your skills sharp. Stay visible outside your team. Keep in touch with people who know your work.

Because the job might end. But the work you’ve built, the network, the reputation, the ability, that’s what travels with you.

Hold on to that.

See you next week.
